The Vehicle should be taken or directed to Motorvation
Body Repair Centre for an estimate of the cost of repairs.
Only one estimate is required. Some ask for a second
estimate ore more, but should be necessary only if the
repairer and the insurance engineer cannot agree on
the value of the repair. Remember, the choice of repairer
is yours.
Some insurers operate recommended repairer schemes which are
a genuine attempt to assist customers to obtain a satisfactory
standard of repair and service. Note your insurers comments
but remember that it is your property which is being repaired.
If your insurance has been arranged by a broker, then you
may wish to contact them to establish precisely the insurers
name and cover given. But, again, the choice of repairer is
yours.
Insurance policies dictate that your vehicle is repaired to
it's pre-accident condition. Occasionally "Betterment"
is inevitable in the course of repair e.g. when a partly worn
tyre has to be replaced and a new tyre is supplied. The insurer
may require you to make a contribution and such a sum will
be payable by you to reduce the final account to the insurer
by the appropriate amount.
The term "Excess" applies to that part of
the claim for which you are not insured. This may have
been agreed with your insurer in order to reduce the
premium, or because of your previous driving record.
The excess is payable to the repairer on collection
of the vehicle, and again the final account to your
insurer is reduced by that amount. However, you may
be able to reclaim this sum from the person found responsible
for the accident or from their insurers.
If you make a claim on another person's insurer, then this
is termed a third party claim. You should obtain the agreement
of the third party insurer to the cost of repairs, then you
may issue, to the repairer, instructions to proceed.
On collection of your vehicle, you will be responsible for
the repair's account, but you should then be reimbursed by
the third party insurer, dependant upon the appointment of
the blame and the agreement reached. Please
ask us about other options.
